I just mentioned, in passing, a few weeks ago to one of my clients that I did not advertise (Too expensive and not effective I find) and that most of the people who come to see me are referred by those who have been pleased with the results of my work.
A couple of days later, she recommended me to a friend!. Since then I have repeated this with good results. Try it.........if you don't already.

You feel that you do not obtain very many referrals from advertising. I have found just the opposite. The majority of my clients come to me via the Yellow Pages. As expensive as this has been, it has definitely paid for itself. I have also had good results from advertising in university student newspapers.
Quite a number of my referrals come from the British Hypnotherapy Association's referral services, as well as from GPs, who I sent my leaflets to with a covering letter. I have the least amount of referrals via "word of mouth", except in the case of hypnotherapy to stop smoking. Clients referring other clients to me for htis purpose has been quite successful. I find clients are actually reluctant to tell others that they have seen a therapist.
